Whaaat!! are you crazy, everyone has a favorite music, said my then girlfriend (now wife) when I once said to her that I don’t like music. She was little shocked and furious with me for next few days and kept convincing me how music is everything life is all about and there is no life without music. Not sure if have guessed it or not, but all this was again nothing but music to my ears:) One fine day when this seemingly trivial topic start converting into a serious argument, I tried to explain her my side of justification that any “played” music distracts me from 5 “natural” music which are always on.

Music of silence

Stop reading this for a minute and try to listen to silence with close your eyes. How was your experience, did you notice the beautiful music within silence? Could you notice silence even when there was noise around you?

Music of emotions

Again look around yourself and closely notice people around you right now. Can you see something they want to say? Once again see it more closely, along with the music of silence this time!

Music of thoughts

You might be thinking about what this crap article is! What else are you thinking? See it more closely, along with the music of silence and emotions this time.

Music of life

What else is happening around you, your home, your community, your life ecosystem? What else you can notice? Try to see it more closely, along with the music of silence, emotions and thought this time.

Music of witness

Who is listening to these natural music of silence, emotions, thought and life? Are you someone who is listening or the one who is looking at someone listening? Close your eyes one more time and listen carefully to the witness you are!

When distraction becomes music

Music distracted me from all the above and takes me away from what is happening giving a sense of false calmness. In summary, music is distraction and so any distraction is music for me. You might have guess by now, the definition of music includes news, social media, Netflix, movies, trump, football and all that. Not only this, music includes these 5 attributes of life which are becoming more and more important for many people-

Setting goals

What do you want to really achieve? Many says goals gives you direction and focus to your efforts. I believe goals are big distractors to what needs to happen and interferes with nature. Now you may argue it might be part of the nature to set goals but in that case you don’t have to do much to peruse them and can hold them very lightly. How do you ensure that by setting goals, you are not making the life of life more difficult?

Being confident

Confidence makes you think you know and that becomes the biggest reason of not knowing. Did you notice how being confident becomes a distraction?

Indulgence

Any kind of sense gratification becomes a distraction to our natural value of compassion for other beings as it makes us selfish. How did you indulge last time and how it impacted your values?

Being busy

We have 2 options while living, first we are always busy and we have to get some free time. Second, we are free and we have to get time for doing all which needs to be done. Which one would you prefer?

Concluding anything

When we conclude, the same conclusion becomes a distraction to other ideas and so makes us unwelcoming in appreciating alternate views and opinions. Do you have any kinds of conclusions about life?

Summary and not a conclusion

The girlfriend incident mentioned in the beginning happened 15 years back in 2005 and so a lot has happened since then. One, I have listened to various music’s both intentionally and non-intentionally during this time and I must admit some of them were so good, I would rather be distracted than enjoying any natural music. The point is not one is better than other, it is a matter of personal choice to decide how much distraction is good for you. The important thing is not to be over-confident, indulgent often, get busy or conclude anything. With this, I will love to end with my favorite music instrument Handpan with a “thingless things” from Hang massive-

Hang massive “thingless things”

Love to hear from you what is your favourite music, I promise I wil give it a try:)
